Angie Maxey is a first-generation Mexican American and proud Houston native whose career has been shaped by a deep belief in the power of education to open doors and change lives. Her journey as an education leader, with experience in both higher education and K–12 systems, reflects her commitment to creating systems where every student is seen, supported, and empowered to succeed. She is recognized for developing innovative, equity-driven frameworks that strengthen student success through strategic planning and organizational change.
As Assistant Dean of Students and Founding Director of Access and Disability Services at the University of St. Thomas–Houston, Angie envisioned and created a new department without existing infrastructure. She designed the full operational framework—policy, technology, and procedure—creating a compliant, mission-aligned program that is now integral to campus operations. Prior to that, as Senior Manager for Dyslexia Services and District Section 504 Coordinator in Houston ISD, Angie designed and led the districtwide launch of universal screening for kindergarten and first grade, and reimagined service delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure students continued to receive critical supports.
Her leadership is defined by a balance of compassion and accountability, integrating data-informed decision-making with a mission-centered approach. Angie’s expertise includes strategic innovation, student support systems, civil rights compliance, and cross-departmental collaboration. She is deeply committed to advancing educational environments where every student can thrive and every educator is empowered to lead with purpose.
Beyond her campus leadership, Angie serves as President of the Association for Higher Ed and Disability (AHEAD) in Texas, guiding professional development and community-building among disability service professionals statewide. She also serves as a board member with the Houston Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (HBIDA) to advance awareness and advocacy for students with learning differences. In her role with HBIDA, she founded of the Celebrating Neurodiversity Art Showcase, an annual event at the University of St. Thomas, that highlights the creativity and strength of neurodiverse students while raising scholarship funds for those seeking learning evaluations.
Angie’s leadership is grounded in empathy, equity, and faith. Married to a fellow educator and the proud parent of two amazing children, she brings both a professional and personal understanding of what it means to help students and families flourish.
